A high power delegation from UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP and LRRRC is currently visiting Maryland County, specifically the Little Wlebo Refugees Camp in Harper district aimed at evaluating the growing plight of Ivorian refugees who fled their country, according to our reporter, the delegation arrived November 16, 2020’
The delegation was joyfully welcomed by the Superintendent of Maryland County George A Prowd who led the trip on the Refugee camp, and expressed gratitude and thanks to the delegations for their visit, and further assured a cordial working relationship with the delegations where in the county.
Speaking to reporters during the visit the Country Representative of UNHCR, Ms. Roseline Okoro said the purpose of their visit is to assist the emergency situation of the Ivorian Refugees in Maryland county.
She told the Refugees in Maryland County to avoid misunderstanding among themselves and also appealed to them to keep doing the preventive measure of Covid-19, adding, “I am encouraging you to be considerate in talking to one another, feel at home Liberia is your neighboring Country,” Ms. Okoro said.
She told the GNN, that that over just under 2,000 Ivorian refugees are currently in Maryland County.
Addressing the delegations on behalf of the Ivorian refugees at Little Wlebo Refugees Camp, Albert Didan who is also a pastor speaking on behalf of the refugees highlighted some of the majors problems they are faced with at the refugee camp include since their arrival, stressing the lack of conducive shelter, water, school, hospital staff, Food and latrines among others
