As Elections Commission Suspends July 8 By-Election, Representative Candidate, Telia Urey Promises District #15 Better Development Opportunities If….

Representative Candidate, Telia Urey

The Liberia Elections Commission has suspended the pending July 8, 2019 by-elections for Montserrado County Senatorial election and District # 15 Representative, a situation that has baffled many Liberians as to why now.

Meanwhile, Telia Urey has assured residents that she will bring development, growth and better opportunities to the district.

Urey is the candidate put forth by four opposition political parties, including the Unity Party (UP), Alternative National Congress (ANC), Liberty Party (LP) and the All Liberian Party (ALP).

Urey, who is the daughter of prominent Liberian businessman and political leader of the ALP, Benoni W. Urey, must do more in her campaign to surpass the strength of the ruling party candidate, Abu Kamara, who seems to be the favorite to claim the District #15 seat.

In the wake of ongoing campaigns leading to the to the July 8 polls, Urey in a social media (Facebook) post Wednesday said she has the integrity and ability to change the ‘dark path’ District #15 has been treading over the years.

“I have the burning desire to take better development to this district. I will work harder to ensure that my dreams and vision for the district become a reality,” Urey stated.

She claimed that most of the residents of District#15 are living in abject poverty, vowing to do everything possible to help empower them so that their living condition can improve.

Urey, however, indicated that all she wants is an opportunity to serve her country and be an example of the positive change that Liberians seek.

“The fight for growth and development in Liberia is the fight that will unite us all and improve our lives as well as send a better signal of the country globally,” she stated.

Urey promised to give 100 percent of her salary and benefits back to the district when elected as the next Representative.

According to her, the finances will be used to carry out development projects throughout the district.

District #15 by-election comes as the result of the death of its Representative Adolph Lawrence in a tragic car crash.
