Arrest Made in Fatal Clash Over Champions League Rivalry in Grand Kru County

Barclayville City, Grand Kru County – The Grand Kru County detachment of the Liberia National Police has apprehended a suspect known only as Prince in connection with the alleged murder of Peter Nebo. The tragic incident reportedly stemmed from a heated argument ignited by a UEFA Champions League match.

The altercation unfolded on April 16, 2025, at the Jlordeh mining site. Peter Nebo, described as an ardent supporter of Arsenal Football Club, was allegedly attacked following a verbal dispute with the suspect, believed to be a fan of Real Madrid. Eyewitnesses reported that the two men were embroiled in an argument concerning Real Madrid’s recent defeat by Arsenal in the ongoing Champions League tournament. The verbal exchange reportedly escalated, culminating in the suspect allegedly striking Nebo on the head with a stick.

Responding swiftly, community youth from Behwan played a crucial role in assisting the police in apprehending the suspect. He was taken into custody on April 17, a day after the fatal incident.

Nebo was immediately transported to the Behwan Health Center for initial medical attention. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to the J.J. Dossen Hospital in neighboring Maryland County. Tragically, despite medical efforts, Peter Nebo was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. His remains were then conveyed back to Behwan, where they were received by his grieving family. He was laid to rest on Friday, April 18, marking a somber moment for the community.

The incident has ignited widespread outrage and grief within the local community. Family members, residents, and sympathizers have voiced their profound sorrow and are demanding the swift dispensation of justice for the untimely death of Peter Nebo.

The Liberia National Police have officially confirmed the arrest and ongoing detention of the suspect.
