Update: Armed Forces of Liberia Soldiers’ Wives Intensify Protest, Blocked Roads From International Airport

Travelers from abroad via the Roberts International Airport destined for Monrovia and its environs were today stranded due to massive road block by angry wives of soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) in demand of the removal of the newly confirmed Minister of National Defense, Retired General Chief of Staff of the AFL, Prince C. Johnson lll.

According to our staff who toured Monrovia and its environs saw several road blocks being posted by dozens of women believed to wives of soldiers of the Liberian army with placards demanding the immediate removal of the Defense Minister.

Despite of  urgent intervention by some  international groups including the UN, ECOWAS, and those from the diplomatic circles, they women, according information gathered have allegedly refused to listen to their appeals, but rather seeks the presence of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.

These road blocks by the women seems to hampered normal activities in the city, this also led to the suspension of the Armed Forces Day today, one of the mayor holidays in the country.

Many of dignitaries who reportedly invited to witness today’s celebration were doomed as the President issued an order to suspend the celebration amid the arrival of guests at the grounds of the Barclay Training Center, the regular seat of the program.
