ArcelorMittal CEO Backs Sports Development in Liberia

ArcelorMittal one of the world’s largest mining firms has announced it will continue to supports efforts by the Government to develop sport disciplines.

The multinational company it is committed to helping the government to attract, develop and retain the best young talents in sports in Liberia and to ensure that they have the capacity to develop their full potentials.

ArcelorMittal Liberia Chief Executive Officer made the disclosure in Buchanan late Sunday shortly after he took the kickoff of the football match in the finals of Grand Bassa County 2022 Sports Tournament.

In an exclusive interview with Ablee-Jay TV Manager Elton Tieh at the Doris Williams sports Stadium in Buchanan said football was love by Liberians and as such the company was happy to support it at the grassroots level.

“Football is Liberia’s most loved sport and consequently has always been an important strand in ArcelorMittal’s sponsorship portfolio”.

“We proudly sponsor the Grand Bassa District tournament as well as Nimba County District tournament because we see it as a unifying event”.

The AML boss stressed that the company’s longstanding sponsorship of the National County Sports Meet with the Ministry of Youths and Sports over the years has played a major role in the “growth and development of football in the country”.

“Our support fantastically contributes to character building of young Liberian athletes through football programs that teach and encourages good sportsmanship, team work, hard work, honesty and integrity” he added.

He furthered: “today we are proud that our Company sponsored this year’s Districts League for Grand Bassa and Nimba as we did last year’s County Sports Meet with the Ministry of Youths and Sports”.

ArcelorMittal’s support included provision of funds for the games, six large banners to promote the event.

ArcelorMittal also made available 150 complementary t-shirts, 50 face caps, 2000 promotional Flyers spectators at the entrance of the football field while 200 posters would be posted at strategic locations in vicinities of the football fields in the counties.

The company also made available hundreds of sacks of water for player and spectators and made payment for live radio and TV coverage.

The global steel giant also paid for the printing of more than 6,000 branded tickets used for the quarter finals, semifinals and finals.

In collaboration of with the Organizing Committee of the Grand Bassa District tournament, ArcelorMittal will make available 75 gold medals and 50 silver medals for the winners and supply competing District teams and technical staff with safe drinking water during the games.

Cash prizes were also made available for winners in both football and kickball categories.

Asked what role AML will play in the upcoming National County Sports Meet, the CEO replied that the company will continue to do what it has been doing in time past to strengthen the tournament.

AML has for years supported the National County meet through the donation of huge sum of money through Ministry of Youth and Sports.
