ANC Youth Congress Declares Maryland County a “Fortress of Resistance” in Fiery Press Statement

By Christian Appleton

HARPER, MARYLAND COUNTY – In a bold and impassioned address delivered at the Jacksonville Township Youth Center on June 4, 2025, the Indomitable National Youth Congress of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) rallied citizens of Maryland County, vowing to transform the southeastern region into a stronghold of political resistance and revolutionary reform.

The press statement, issued by Secretary-General Alieu Kiadii, served as both a tribute to the county’s loyalty to ANC standard-bearer Mr. Alexander B. Cummings and a scathing critique of what the party describes as “economic violence” and “government-sanctioned sabotage.”

“We gather today not as spectators of oppression, but as voices of resistance,” the statement opened, framing the gathering as a call to action for those dissatisfied with the current state of governance and economic policy.

The ANC hailed the people of Maryland for their unwavering political support in both the 2017 and 2023 elections. Describing their vote as an act of “conscious conviction,” the statement affirmed that their stand would be remembered in history.

“You did not just vote. You took a stand,” Kiadii declared. “And for that, history will remember you.”

The statement called for Maryland County to become a “no-go zone” for what the ANC described as “political opportunists and failed ideologies,” urging local leaders and youth to take a more aggressive stance in defending the county against exploitative interests.

“Maryland must be known across Liberia as the stronghold of the ANC, the home of Mr. Cummings, and the epicenter of the youth revolution.

The ANC Youth Congress acknowledged growing frustration among residents over the lack of jobs, education, and public services. Kiadii emphasized that the party’s leadership is actively listening—and, more importantly, ready to act.

“These concerns shall not be tabled—they shall be acted upon urgently and unapologetically.”

The address took sharp aim at multinational corporations operating in Maryland, accusing them of stripping the region of its natural resources while providing little in return.

“This is not investment. This is economic violence,” Kiadii stated, describing the treatment of workers as “modern-day slavery… hidden in corporate suits and government complicity.”

The ANC also condemned the national government’s seasonal moratorium on heavy vehicles during the rainy season, describing it as a “planned starvation” that restricts access to food and essential goods in southeastern Liberia.

“You do not fix infrastructure by starving your citizens,” the statement read, accusing the government of punishing regions unwilling to conform.

Calling Alexander B. Cummings “the only hope beyond the status quo,” the Youth Congress positioned him as a transformative leader capable of breaking Liberia’s cycles of corruption and dependency.

“He is not here to beg on behalf of Liberia—he is here to build a self-reliant, self-respecting, and people-powered republic,” Kiadii said.

In its closing remarks, the statement urged Marylanders to organize, resist, and rise, reaffirming the ANC’s revolutionary rhetoric with the rallying cry: “Aluta continua. The struggle lives. Maryland will rise!”
