Trust Fuels Liberia’s Digital Revolution As Government Accelerates Inclusive Transformation Agenda

By Amos Harris

The Government of Liberia is making bold strides toward a modern, inclusive, and digitally empowered future, with trust emerging as the driving force behind its national transformation agenda. Delivering a compelling keynote at the Liberia Internet Governance Forum 2026, held at the Liberia Learning Center on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Paynesville, Acting Information Minister Johnny Tarkpah unveiled an ambitious vision for a digitally connected nation where every citizen is informed, engaged, and empowered.

Minister Tarkpah highlighted the government’s proactive efforts to expand digital communication platforms, ensuring that public information is not only timely and accessible but also interactive. These forward-looking initiatives are already enhancing transparency and strengthening real-time engagement between citizens and the government through innovative, data-driven solutions.

“At the heart of our digital transformation is a simple but powerful principle: no citizen should be left uninformed in a digitally connected Liberia,” Tarkpah declared to resounding applause, reinforcing the administration’s people-centered approach to governance. He stressed that while infrastructure and technology are critical, the true engine of progress lies in the people themselves.

Emphasizing responsible digital participation, the Acting Minister called on citizens to actively combat misinformation and contribute to a more trustworthy information ecosystem. He noted that technology alone does not build trust, but people do, underscoring the importance of public awareness and civic responsibility in sustaining Liberia’s digital growth.

Central to the government’s strategy is the development of a digitally literate society. Minister Tarkpah described digital literacy as a cornerstone of national resilience and sustainable development, enabling citizens to access opportunities, participate meaningfully in democracy, and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy. He affirmed that a digitally literate society is not just informed but resilient, reiterating the government’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring equitable access to information across all communities.

The forum brought together a vibrant mix of policymakers, civil society actors, students, and members of Liberia’s fast-growing tech community, all united by a shared vision of shaping the nation’s digital future. In a rallying call for collective action, Minister Tarkpah urged stakeholders to work together in building a trusted and innovative digital ecosystem. He emphasized that the nation must move forward together with the guiding truth that trust is the foundation of a digital future.

The Liberia Internet Governance Forum 2026 marks another major milestone in the country’s digital journey. The event showcased strong government leadership and a unified national commitment to harnessing technology as a catalyst for inclusive growth, transparency, and sustainable development.
