Amid Fire Outbreak, Speaker Koffa Says ‘No Amount Of Threat Will Stop This Legislature From Doing The Liberian people work’

Addressing a news conference today, April 15, 2024 after his residence was gutted with unstoppable fire at his Rehab Community in Paynesville, the Speaker of the 55th National Legislature, Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa denied that the cause of the fire was due to faulty wiring, and connection.

He told reporters at the news conference that no substandard wires or connection was used on his residence, speaking further on the recently signed resolution for the establishment of War and Economic Crimes Court in Liberia by both the lower and upper houses, said he don’t know and don’t want to overly speculate on things.

He told the Liberian people that nothing will stop them, the legislators from doing the Liberian people work, doing that which we believed in our own conscious, if you want to stop by burning our houses is not the solution, he lamented.

He used the occasion to poured praises on several individuals who identified with him and his family, stressing, “Former President Weah blessed me with three suitcases, and provided me with accommodation, I also received several calls and text messages from friends both in Liberia and the United States”.

In a related development the Speaker Koffa on Monday met with the United States House Democracy Partnership’s Technical Assistance Consultancy Team at his Capital Building Office.

The meeting centered around the provision of a short term technical assistance consultancy, focused on supporting the Legislature with improving citizen participation, through their Civil Society organizations, in the budget process.
