In a strong show of continued diplomatic ties and mutual respect, United States Ambassador to Liberia, His Excellency Mark C. Toner, paid a high-profile courtesy visit to Liberia’s former President, His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, on Monday, June 2, 2025. The meeting took place at Dr. Weah’s private office at the Jamaica Resort in Paynesville.
Hailed as a symbol of enduring U.S.-Liberia relations, the encounter brought together two prominent figures committed to fostering peace, democracy, and development. Ambassador Toner and Dr. Weah engaged in substantive dialogue covering a wide array of national and international matters, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation and promoting democratic values and sustainable peace across Liberia.
Ambassador Toner was accompanied by Mr. Stephen C. MacLeod, Senior Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia, underscoring the seriousness and depth of the discussions. Also in attendance was Ambassador Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Sr., former Minister of Foreign Affairs and now Senior Advisor and Chief Special Envoy to Dr. Weah.
The visit reflects Washington’s ongoing commitment to engaging key Liberian leaders and stakeholders in shaping a peaceful and prosperous future for the country. For his part, Dr. Weah, who is not only Liberia’s 24th President but also a former UN and national goodwill ambassador, welcomed the U.S. delegation with warmth and optimism. He emphasized his continued role as a statesman and advocate for unity and progress in Liberia.
