SANNIQUELLIE, NIMBA COUNTY — The Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA) has been honored as the Best Performing Public Institution of 2026, earning prominent national recognition during this year’s National Public Service Day celebrations organized by the Civil Service Agency (CSA) in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.

The prestigious award underscores LiMA’s outstanding performance in public service delivery, institutional accountability, and technological innovation, as well as its strategic contributions toward advancing the Government of Liberia’s national development agenda. The recognition comes at a time when the Authority continues to actively strengthen its role within the domestic and international maritime sectors while promoting efficiency, transparency, and high professionalism in the execution of its mandate.
Receiving the award on behalf of the institution, Cllr. Neto Zarzar Lighe Sr., Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Liberia Maritime Authority, described the achievement as a collective success earned by the entire workforce of the Authority. Cllr. Lighe dedicated the accolade directly to the management team and staff of LiMA, praising their unwavering dedication, commitment, and everyday professionalism in serving the Liberian people.
According to the Commissioner, the recognition accurately reflects the hard work and sacrifices made by employees across the institution to ensure that complex maritime services are delivered effectively and in strict accordance with international standards. He expressed deep appreciation to the Civil Service Agency for acknowledging the Authority’s ongoing operational reforms and reaffirmed LiMA’s institutional commitment to maintaining excellence in public service.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and professionalism of the entire LiMA family,” Cllr. Lighe stated during the ceremony. He further emphasized that the Authority remains fully committed to providing efficient, quality services while supporting the long-term growth and structural transformation of Liberia’s maritime sector and the broader public service.
The National Public Service Day celebration brought together senior government officials, civil servants, international development partners, and key stakeholders from across Liberia to recognize the specific institutions and individuals making significant contributions to national development. The event also served as an important platform to highlight the necessity of accountability, performance metrics, and innovative practices within government institutions as Liberia seeks to improve public sector efficiency and overall service delivery.
Independent observers noted that LiMA’s high-profile recognition reflects the increasing economic importance of the maritime sector to Liberia’s macroeconomy, driven primarily through its globally competitive ship registry operations, robust domestic maritime regulation, and proactive international maritime engagement.
As the Authority celebrates this major milestone, LiMA management has stated that it remains steadfast in its core mission to uphold rigorous international maritime standards, protect Liberia’s sovereign maritime interests, and provide transparent, effective services that contribute directly to sustainable national growth and development.
