…President Boakai Reinstates LACRA Director General

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has reinstated Christopher D. Sankolo as Director General of the Liberia Agriculture Commodity Regulatory Authority (LACRA) following his clearance by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC). The reinstatement comes after an intensive investigation into allegations of corruption and financial impropriety yielded no evidence of wrongdoing.
The decision, announced by the Executive Mansion on Monday, effectively ends months of uncertainty surrounding the leadership of the agricultural regulatory body. According to the official statement, Sankolo is expected to resume his duties as head of LACRA immediately.
President Boakai originally suspended Sankolo in June 2025 to allow the LACC to conduct an independent, unhindered investigation. The suspension was a procedural measure to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the process. Following a comprehensive multi-month review, the LACC concluded on January 15, 2026, that there was insufficient evidence to support criminal charges, fully clearing Sankolo of all allegations.
The Executive Mansion emphasized that the reinstatement directly reflects the administration’s commitment to due process, the rule of law, and the independence of oversight institutions. Government officials noted that the resolution underscores the importance of allowing independent bodies to fulfill their mandates professionally and free from political interference.
Sankolo’s return restores leadership continuity at LACRA, a vital agency responsible for setting standards and ensuring compliance in Liberia’s agricultural commodity sector. The authority plays a critical role in promoting major export commodities, particularly cocoa and coffee.
