Labour Minister Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah, Sr. has met with a high-level delegation from the Liberia Agricultural Companies Association (LACA), reaffirming the Government’s commitment to a swift and permanent resolution of the group’s grievances. Minister Kruah currently serves as the chair of the Presidential Task Force recently established by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. This task force is charged with amicably resolving various complaints raised by LACA that the association claims are significantly hindering agricultural operations across the country.
In a press release issued today following a closed-door meeting, Minister Kruah informed the LACA delegation that his committee is in the final stages of compiling a comprehensive list of recommendations. These findings, which address the core of the association’s concerns, will be presented to the President within the next few days. The Minister emphasized that the meeting served to build confidence and forge closer cooperation between the government and the agricultural sector, ultimately aiming to advance the national agenda for agricultural improvement.
The Labour boss further noted that more than twenty key government ministries and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) constitute the Special Presidential Task Force. These entities are currently conducting a critical review of the LACA complaints to ensure that the proposed solutions are both relevant and sustainable. “We take the grievances of the agro-sector very seriously and are dedicated to carrying out President Boakai’s mandate to resolve them,” Minister Kruah stated.
In a related development, the National Minimum Wage Board, also chaired by Minister Kruah, recently held a strategic retreat focused on realigning the current minimum wage for Liberian workers. During the session, Minister Kruah called upon board members to soberly evaluate the existing wage structure against the current cost of living and the basic wages of neighboring West African countries. He urged the board to provide recommendations that reflect the present-day economic realities of the population.
The day-long retreat was attended by the Board’s Head of Secretariat and Director, Jerome Kollie, alongside prominent members including Professor Geegbae A. Geegbae, Madam Theresa Vedkinda, and Madam Blessing Suah. The outcome of these deliberations is expected to be presented to the Minister shortly as part of the board’s statutory mandate to review the economic conditions of private-sector workers.
Since the inception of the current administration, the government has remained focused on improving the living standards of the Liberian people through job creation and sustainable economic growth. The ongoing efforts of the National Minimum Wage Board and the Presidential Task Force underscore the “Rescue Mission” government’s dedication to fostering a fair and thriving economic environment for all.
