The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), James Dorbor Jallah, has praised the institution’s Communication, Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) Section for its outstanding role in promoting the Authority’s work and enhancing its visibility both nationally and internationally.

Speaking on Friday, March 13, during the CMPA’s three-day Strategic Communication Retreat, Commissioner General Jallah described the communication unit as a critical driver in strengthening public awareness about the LRA’s activities and revenue mobilization efforts. The retreat also introduced modern communication tools, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), aimed at improving how the Authority engages taxpayers and disseminates institutional information.

According to the LRA Commissioner General, communication remains a vital pillar of effective revenue administration. He stressed that the work of the CMPA team continues to build public trust and reinforce the Authority’s commitment to transparency and accountability. Commissioner General Jallah noted that the team has been vibrant and instrumental in ensuring the LRA’s work is recognized across all levels, which in turn supports overall revenue performance.

The strategic retreat brought together representatives from several operational departments whose work intersects with public communication, taxpayer engagement, and policy implementation. Participating units included the Taxpayer Services and Processing Department, Customs Department, Domestic Tax Department, Management Information Systems Division, and Internal Audit.

Held under the theme “Strengthening CMPA’s Strategic Positioning, Collaboration and Digital Communication in 2026,” the retreat provided a platform for departments to assess existing communication systems, improve collaboration, and develop practical strategies for enhancing the flow of institutional information and coordinated messaging.

A major highlight of the event was a specialized training session on Artificial Intelligence and digital communication tools designed to modernize the Authority’s strategies. The training was facilitated by digital communication expert Bethel Chisom Anthony, who introduced participants to emerging AI technologies that support research, content creation, media monitoring, and the timely dissemination of information to stakeholders.

During the retreat, the Manager of the CMPA Section, Danicius Kaihenneh Sengbeh, emphasized that integrating AI into the Authority’s processes reflects management’s commitment to keeping pace with global digital transformation. Mr. Sengbeh noted that the training aligns with the broader modernization agenda currently being pursued within the LRA, including investments in automation and digitization across several operational areas. He explained that the LRA cannot afford to stay behind in the digital world and that AI is essential for strengthening and improving their work.

Mr. Sengbeh also focused on the necessity of improving internal coordination between departments. He argued that effective internal communication is just as important as external messaging to ensure that accurate information reaches taxpayers in a timely and coordinated manner. He stated that the gathering was intended to collectively define practical ways to improve both external and internal communication processes.

Participants utilized the retreat to exchange ideas, identify communication gaps, and develop strategies to strengthen institutional messaging. The discussions emphasized the importance of coordinated communication in supporting taxpayer education, voluntary compliance, and broader revenue mobilization objectives.

At the conclusion of the three-day event, participants agreed on several key outcomes. These include enhanced collaboration between the CMPA Section and operational departments, a better understanding of communication needs across the institution, and a renewed commitment to delivering clear and consistent messages to all stakeholders.

The CMPA Strategic Communication Retreat forms part of the LRA’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional transparency while supporting the mission of domestic resource mobilization. As Liberia continues to advance its revenue reform agenda, officials believe that stronger communication systems and the integration of modern digital tools will play a critical role in building public confidence and improving tax compliance across the country.
