LiSA Boss Applauds Government, Champions Quality Standards For National Development

By Amos Harris

Monrovia, Liberia – The Director General of the Liberia Standards Authority (LiSA), Stephen Y. Mamba, reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to propelling Liberia’s national development by bolstering its quality infrastructure and strategically positioning it for international standardization. This, he asserts, is crucial for Liberia to effectively compete on the global stage.

Speaking on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism’s (MICAT) regular press briefing, Mamba lauded President Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s administration for its progressive development agenda. He specifically praised Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah for his “transformative leadership,” which he believes has significantly redefined the delivery of public services across the nation.

“This press engagement marks a new chapter in LiSA’s mission to bring our institution and services closer to the Liberian people,” Mamba told journalists. “It reinforces our commitment to support the national agenda under the leadership of His Excellency President Boakai through the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.”

Acknowledging Key Collaborators

The LiSA boss extended commendations to various stakeholders instrumental in the passage and operationalization of the Liberia Standards Act, which was enacted in 2022 and fully implemented in 2024. He particularly acknowledged the pivotal contributions of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, the Liberia Business Association, the Manufacturers Association of Liberia, and the National Consumer Association of Liberia.

Mamba also recognized the institutional support from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) and the Technical Working Group on Codex and Food Safety, all of whom have played a significant role in advancing LiSA’s mission.

Global Standards: A Gateway to Economic Growth

Mamba emphasized that Liberia’s economic growth is intrinsically linked to meeting international benchmarks, especially those governing quality, safety, and environmental protection. “To compete globally, we must ensure our products and services meet stringent international standards,” he stressed. “That’s the only way to open doors to regional and global markets.”

Established under the Liberia Standards Act, LiSA now functions as the official National Standards Body. Its broad mandate includes providing critical services in standardization, metrology, testing, inspection, certification, and conformity assessment.

Ensuring Compliance and Building Trust

LiSA, Mamba further emphasized, is dedicated to ensuring Liberia’s compliance with World Trade Organization (WTO) obligations and delivering essential services like calibration and product certification. These services are crucial, he noted, for building public trust in Liberian-made goods.

Concluding his remarks, Mamba assured the public of LiSA’s ongoing dedication to enhancing Liberia’s reputation in international trade. “Our goal is to make Liberia a credible player in global commerce and a beacon of inclusive, sustainable national development,” he affirmed.
