YPLS Africa Alumni Launches ‘Get Out To Vote Campaign’ With Over L$472K

In its bid to support a violence free December 8, 2020 midterm senatorial elections, Naymote Partners for Democracy has made available L$472,500.00 to the Alumni Cohort 7 of the Young Political Leadership School Africa aimed supporting increased youth participation in the upcoming electoral process.

Addressing a news conference at her office, Ms. Alphia Faith Kemokai, Program Coordinator of the YPLS disclosed that 80 Alumni will use the fund to lead a non-violence electoral campaign to undertake grassroot civic engagement event across Montserrado, Margibi, Grand Bassa and Bomi Counties educating young voters about the voting process, where to vote and how to vote using the skills obtained from the just ended YPLS Africa conference in Monrovia.

Ms. Kemokai said this was her institution contribution towards Liberia’s democratic enhancement and to help Alumni actively involved in supporting the substance of democracy and youth participation in political process. She also disclosed that they are expected to reach thousands of young voters, using innovative grassroot door-to-door engagements, taking buses rides across communities, entertainment centers, marketplaces with assigned volunteers.

She said the Alumni will send text messages, make phone calls to friends, and use community radio stations for the ‘Get out to Vote Campaign’. They are expected to mutative and inspire young people to turnout and make a difference by vitung wisely, and making the best choice for the empowerment of the Liberian Senate, stressing that “Realizing that to have a good Senator, you should be a good voter”, Ms. Kemokai speaking further noted.

For her part, the President of the just ended Cohort 7 Class, Ms. Wellay T. Barr beeping with smile expressed thanks and appreciation to the institution for allowing them to go out there and encourage young people to vote wisely, stressing, “We will do our best to encourage our young people, especially the first time voters to vote wisely”.

The Young Political Leadership School Africa (YPLS Africa) is a flagship program of Naymote Partners for Democratic Development; its overarching goal is to contribute to the formation of a new generation of character-driven political leaders that would be accountable, responsive, and accessible to the needs and interests of their citizens and help to shape the future of their respective countries in the positive direction.
