Ahead of the official kick-off of the National County Sports Meet, Grand Gedeh County Senator A. Marshall Dennis assured  both the kickball and football teams of all necessary support needed to ensure the County wins the championship of the nation’s annual sports tournament.

Senator Dennis, in separate engagements, presented in cash to the soccer team, One Hundred Ten thousand (110,000 ) Liberian dollars and a brand new high quality customize set of jerseys which costs six hundred twenty- five (625.00) United States dollars, also seventy thousand ( 70,000) LD to the kickball team as his initial contribution and offered to place at the female team disposal  two vehicles to convey them to Buchanan, Grand Bassa county as his way of identifying  with the teams to prepare the players for victory.

During the engagement with the soccer team, Senator Dennis described sports as a unifier, as such, it must be void of politics, he at the same time cautioned the teams to put  their best in every match to ensure Grand Gedeh County emerges the champion of this year County Sports Meet.

” For those of you who are old players know my involvement with sports in the County as far back as 2010, when I singlehandedly sponsored the county team here in Monrovia up to the final match when we were defeated by the Nimba county side two goals to zero. Sports bring people together so it should be politics free but we politicize sports so much in the county to the extent that we hardly go for finals now, not to speak of lifting the trophy.

Selection of players and all are politicized, people twist the arms of coaches that know the games to choose players of their interests. However, we are hopeful that this year  we will get the results we want from the teams put together by the technical staff. Do not hesitate to call on me if the need arises during this County meet”. Senator Dennis added.

The People’s Senator as he is affectionately called, earlier set ablaze the dormant camp of the  County’s female team with joyful shouting, the young and energized females were seen dancing and chanting songs when their Senator drove in their Duport road camp and presented in cash 70,000 Liberian dollars and two vehicles to transport the team to Buchanan, Grand Bassa County where the group stage of the County meet is expected to kickoff over the weekend.

” I have come this morning to thank all of you for taking on the duty to play for the county, to ride motorbikes from Zwedru to Ganta and then to Monrovia is a huge sacrifice. I will send my cars to take you to Buchanan. We your leaders will be there with you to give you the zeal and courage because we want to make sure Grand Gedeh wins this year County Meet. Coach, I brought a package of 70,000LD for you and your team”. Senator Dennis averred.

For their part, the both teams applauded the Senator for his contribution made directly to the teams for their wellbeing, adding that the Senator’s gesture does not come as a surprise to them because according to them, it is not the first of it kind.

Amid Senator Dennis’ huge contributions, the players of the county teams have meanwhile promised to play their best to make Grand Gedeh County 2022 champion in the Sports Meet.
