The Mayor of the City of Monrovia and Youth Whig Chairman of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) , Jefferson Koijee has been accused of yesterday incident that led to the death of two persons with several wounded after he was spotted leading a group aggressively to chase supporters of Unity Party (UP) representative candidate, Cornelia Kruah-Togba.
Bereaved families of those who were allegedly shot at are calling on the Liberian Government to bring to book those caught committing the act of murdering their relatives, making specific reference of the Monrovia City Mayor who the alleged was on the forefront during the incident yesterday.
“I saw Jefferson Koijee with group of men some with pistols, cutlasses chasing supporters of the Unity Party candidate, Mrs. Togba, while supporters of the CDC candidate, John Weah also joined them throwing stones at us (Supporters of the UP candidate). I was on the spot when one Koijee’s men fired at the crowds, a situation that led to the death of my cousin,” Charles Samuels one of the supporters of Mrs. Togba speaking to our reporter said.
“This Government is for all Liberians it is not for the CDC along, we are taken aback of this ugly situation. Are we in war? Are those who allegedly murder people in cold blood are above the law? President Weah must do something about this,” Jacob Y. Flomo, a resident of Iron Factory speaking to the GNN urged.
In his Face Book wall statement, Abe Darius Dillon, an executive of the Liberty Party said, “My Friends, from all indications and current political unfolding in Liberia, it is clear that we’ve got some difficult days ahead as a nation and people. It will take the grace and protection of God and strong courage for those standing up for rights and justice to carry on. Weaklings may fall into submission out of intimidation and fear.
The death threats, multiple people having or claiming to be seeing dreams of my death, whether real, imagined and/or concocted, are increasing by the day. But as Martin Luther King, Jr. famously said, “It really doesn’t matter with me now, because I’ve been to the mountaintop. And I don’t mind. Like anybody, I would like to live – a long life; longevity has its place. But I’m not concerned about that now. I just want to do God’s will. And He’s allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I’ve looked over. And I’ve seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land. So I’m happy, tonight. I’m not worried about anything. I’m not fearing any man.”
I have seen SATU and survived. I have seen ATU and survived. I am seeing SABU UNIT today. And yes, we shall survive this as well, by the grace of God. But even if it be the will of God that we do not survive, we shall not bow to any idol. We refuse to submit to any form of intimidation or fear tactics.
In paraphrasing what Mark Anthony said, it is cowards that die many times before their death, but that a valour tastes of death once. I am not a coward. I fear no foe and I fear nothing but to do wrong. My life is in God’s hands; it is he that giveth and taketh life as he pleases and at his on will and time. And until hen, I will continue to speak to issues of national concerns with bold courage, with malice toward none, but for our common good.
