An Assistant Professor of International Relations at the University of Liberia Graduate School, Prof. Josephus Moses Gray will this week Wednesday, July 4th address the First Plenary Session of the 7th China-Africa Think Tanks Forum in Beijing, the People’s Republic of China. He will deliver a paper on the topic: China and Africa Countries’ Independent Exploration of Development Paths: Experience and Inspiration.
Professor Gray who departed the country on Sunday to attend the international forum in Beijing, will join Chinese and 35 African Scholars and Members of the African Diplomatic Corps in China.
The international forum under the theme: China-Africa Relations over the Course of Reform and Opening-up is organized by the Secretariat of the Chinese follow-up Committee of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). In September this year, about 40 African presidents and heads of governments are expected to gather in Beijing for FOCAC.
The growing profile of China in Africa reached a significant milestone in 2006, when 41 African presidents and Heads of State were hosted by the Chinese leadership to a Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a forum held in Beijing.
This year’s China-Africa Think Tanks Forum is jointly organized by the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University and the International Strategic Research Center of the State Council Counselors’ Office in Beijing, China.
The International Forum will focus on three topics, they are: China-Africa Relations upon the 40th Anniversary of China’s Reform and Opening-up”; China and African Countries’ Independent Exploration of Development Paths: Experience and Inspiration, and Think Tank and Media Cooperation for a stronger voice and more effective Public Communication.
Professor Gray, official representative of Liberian scholars, will deliver a detailed instructive paper on China and Africa Countries’ Independent Exploration of Development Paths: Experience and Inspiration.
According to a dispatch, Professor Gray is expected to use the international Forum to discuss how China-Africa Belonged to a Community of Shared Future and how the Sino-African relations ushered into a new era of shared future, hope and inspiration.
Professor Gray will provide some equilibrium of China-African long standing unique relationship which has been a win-win situation and further discuss how China and Africa shared similar experiences, both having suffered from aggression, plunder and enslavement by colonialists.
The speech will also present a historical perspective of China-African relationship and how the relations ushered into a new era of all-round development that is having great impacts on the lives of millions on both fronts.The UL Professor is expected to use the international podium to discuss how Africa cannot achieve peace and development in isolation from the world, and that the world needs Africa for stability and prosperity, and Africa needs the world for socio-economic growth and human development.
Assistant Professor Gray hails from the Southeastern Liberian village of Kayken Chiefdom in Barclayville, Grand Kru County. He is a scholar with a wealth of rich credentials including a doctorate (PhD) in International Relations and Foreign Policy Studies from Paris, France.
