U.S. Rights Group Arrives In Liberia To Launch Serious Investigation Into Human Rights Abuses

In order to probe several individuals who have over the years violated the rights of Liberians and further plundered the wealth of the Country, a delegation of Amnesty International; a group that campaign for the rights of people is in the Country to launch investigation into human rights abuses.

According to an informed source, the arrival of the delegation to Liberia is a result of a United States Department Human Rights 2017 Report released on Liberia where it has been reported of the growing violation of the rights of the people which is indeed visible during the year under review.

Making reference of the arbitrary deprivation of life and other unlawful or Politically Motivated Killings; there were a few reports that the government or its agents committed arbitrary or unlawful killings.

The report quoting a February 4, an officer of the Liberia National Police (LNP) assigned in Brewerville. Monrovia allegedly stabbed and killed civilian Fedesco Chea during an argument that began when the officer was reportedly impounding the victim’s motorcycle for violating a   curfew.

The report further noted that the Professional Standards Division of the LNP, which is responsible for disciplinary actions, has no record of the victim’s death.
