(LINA) – The Supreme Court has affirmed the decision of the National Elections Commission (NEC) declaring Gorpue L. Kargon and Robert Flomo Womba as winners of the Representative elections in Nimba and Bong counties respectively.
The high court’s decision follows months of legal wrangling after a lawsuit filed against the two by their opponents in the Tuesday, October 10, 2017 Representative Elections.
“The certification shall be retroactive as of the date they should have taken seat as members of the House of Representatives and in the same manner and circumstances receive and enjoy all rights and privileges inclusive of salaries, allowances and all other benefits,” the court said in its final ruling Thursday, April 12.
Cases ruled in by the high court were the post-election cases of Bong County District #4 candidate Susannah Lorpu Mator against the National Elections Commission (NEC) and Robert Flomo Womba as Co-Appellee and that of former Nimba County Representative Garrison Yealue also versus the NEC in which winner Gorpue L. Kargon was co-appellee.
It can be recalled that on Tuesday, March 27, the high court listened and heard arguments in the outlined post-election cases.
The ruling brings to an end all post-election cases of the October 10, 2017 Presidential and Representative Elections on the docket of the high court.
The Supreme Court of Liberia also ruled in four motion cases n Thursday, including those of the management of Sarafina Venture versus the Liberia Telecommunication Authority; James D. Weaver and J. C. N. Howard versus Benjamin Paygar; Aloysious D. Coleman versus Mr. Samuel Doe; and Samuel Dennis versus the Management of Prestige Motors Corporation.
