Sinoe Soccer Squad In Motor Accident; Players Sustain Injuries
Reports reaching Greenville say Sinoe County’s chances of winning this year’s National County Meet could be slim as some of its players travelling in a vehicle sustained injuries in an accident on their way to Nimba County for the games.
According to the reports, the players are currently undergoing treatment at the St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Cestos City, Rivercess County.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency via telephone, Alvin Swen-Tee, head of the Liberia Football Association Sinoe County branch, said:“It (accident) happened in the evening hours of Tuesday, December 11, around the Sand Beach area in Rivercess County when the car’s shaft broke while in motion, leading it to plunge into a valley.”
Swen-Tee said even before leaving Greenville, it was observed that the vehicle seemed not to have good brakes, and that the left back tire was faulty.
Meanwhile, Swen-Tee is appealing to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to extend the team’s first game that is scheduled for Sunday, December 16, noting that this will help the players to rest to regain strength to perform in the national county meet.
He is also calling on citizens of the county to continue praying for the team to reach its goal of winning this year’s meet.
For his part, Rep. Crayton Oman Duncan, who is the brain behind the county team in terms of support, regretted the situation, but assured his commitment of continued support to the team.
After the report hit Greenville, citizens expressed grief, but still showed confidence that Sinoe County will emerge as champion of the National County Meet this year.
