About 6,000 vehicles are waiting in line at the Russian checkpoint in Vasylivka, Zaporizhzhya Oblast, with people having been forced to sleep in their cars for more than 10 nights, Melitopol mayor Ivan Fedorov said on Ukrainian national television on Oct. 9.

Vasylivka is the only town where people can cross from the occupied territory and the territory controlled by the government of Ukraine.

“As of this morning, there were 6,000 cars in Vasylivka”, Fedorov said.

“The enemies are abusing our people, this morning they let about 100 cars go to the last checkpoint, people were crying with happiness because they could finally get to Zaporizhzhya soon,” he said.

“But right (at the exit) they were turned around and told that Saturday and Sunday are days off.”
