Queen’s father caring for daughter in coma gets deportation extension
By Spectrum News NY1 |
A Queens father who was facing deportation will be allowed to stay in the country a little bit longer.
Mozammel Hoque, 46, was granted a one-year extension by a judge Friday at Federal Plaza.
The single father of three has not only been dealing with the stress of possible deportation, but also with taking care of his 19-year-old daughter. A car accident earlier this week left her in a coma.
Hoque says he’s grateful that he will be able to stay by his daughter’s bedside.
“They were very nice, very kindful. They were very helpful. They did what they can did. They did enough for me,” he said. “I was so glad, so happy that I can go back to my daughter. I have to be with her every day, and I have to pray for her.”
Hoque immigrated from Bangladesh and has been in the United States since 1991.
He says he’s been on ICE’s radar after they were notified of his undocumented status following a landlord dispute
