Police Deploys Officers At Mosques Across Liberia

The Liberia National Police (LNP) has deployed officers at mosques across the country to ensure the protection of Muslims as they go through the month of fasting.

Police spokesman Moses Carter said the LNP took the decision after it observed that Muslims are constantly being attacked by criminals, especially during the time of fasting in the country, adding, “This measure is to ensure they are protected as they pray for the nation.”

“It has come to our notice that whenever Muslims are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan, they are attacked by criminals while on their way to the mosques to pray or while leaving the mosques, especially at night; they sometimes enter into mosques and make away with valuable items,” he said.

Carter explained that in 2017, two Muslims during the observance of Ramadan were allegedly murdered in cold blood while on their way for prayers to a mosque in a community on the Bushrod Island.

He said the measure will remain in force until the close of the month of Ramadan.

Carter made the disclosure via mobile on a local radio in Monrovia on Monday.
