Police Assures Improved Security For Muslims During Ramadan
Police Inspector General Patrick Sudue has assured Muslims in the country that the Liberia National Police (LNP) will provide full security for the Muslim community as they observe the Holy Month of Ramadan.
Muslims in Liberia on Monday joined millions of Muslims around the globe to observe the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar year where Muslims abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and engaging in sexual activity from dawn to dusk.
Fasting during the holy month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam which Muslims all around the world observe that also includes prayer, charity and other forms of good deeds.
The beginning of the fast date varies from one year to another in the Islamic calendar. It follows the lunar cycle which comes earlier each year.
It has been observed that during the Holy Month of Ramadan, several Muslims in Liberia become victims of criminal actions effected by thieves who sometimes intrude into Mosques during prayer services.
There have been reports of people losing valuable items, including cash and cell phones while breaking the fasts at sunset. Others are sometimes subjected to vehicle burglary, among other forms of unwholesome acts by criminals.
But, Police IG Sudue, however, assured members of the Muslim community during a meeting with the Grand Mufti of Liberia and Imam Councils that the LNP will ensure that their security is prioritized as they observe the holy month.
Sudue appreciated the Muslim leaders for recognizing his leadership role and explained that the idea of providing security for Muslims at various Mosques is aimed at creating a space where they can commune at their various places of worship without being attacked or their personal effects taken away by thieves.
The LNP IG narrated that since the setting into motion of the Ramadan security operation, it has succeeded in ensuring total security for all Muslims across the country.
Also speaking during the meeting, the Grand Mufti of Liberia, Sheikh Abubakar Mory D. Sumaworo, commended the Police boss, and termied him “one of the best” Police Chiefs in the history of Liberia.
The Grand Mufti noted that since Sudue ascended to the leadership of the LNP, he has been very proactive and creative in the discharge of his duties which has helped greatly in the fight against crimes and abuse.
At the close of the meeting, the LNP boss donating seven full packages of hijab and 30 bags of rice as the LNP’s contribution to the Muslim community during the fast month.
