Police have arrested and charged the man they say killed one woman and injured another in a gruesome attack in Brooklyn. Investigators say the victims knew the accused attacker, 34-year-old Jerry Brown, and that an axe was recovered at the scene.
However, investigators are still piecing together the gruesome scene in the 8th floor apartment of the Bushwick Houses. Police say they found the bloodied axe in the building.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, investigators say Brown attacked two young women, all while a 4-year-old girl was in the unit.
“There is a good chance this will be categorized as a domestic incident,” said Michael Kemper, the Deputy Chief Commanding Officer of the NYPD.
Sources say the surviving victim is 21-year-old Angela Calle, the mother of the 4-year-old and the ex-girlfriend of the man in custody. Police say she’s in serious condition after suffering a deep laceration to the back of her head. She called an Uber and the driver called 911.
“As this female was being treated by EMS, they became aware another female was inside of 811 Flushing Avenue in an 8th floor apartment,” Kemper said. “Also, a victim of an assault and she might be dead.”
Police say 20-year-old Savannah Rivera was pronounced dead on the scene. Sources say they found severed body parts.
They also found Valle’s young daughter unharmed, she has been reunited with family.
Neighbors say they are thankful for the child’s safety.
“My heart, I know that was a tragedy for her,” said neighbor Cassandra Walker. “If she seen it or if she didn’t, but my heart – God was with that child.”
Brown faces charges of murder, attempted murder, and criminal possession of a weapon.
