A Concerned citizen of Nimba and a resident of Gompa City, Mr. James O. Kabia has accused the County’s Senior Commerce Inspector, Alphanso K. S. Miamen of allegedly diverting a confiscated TVS motorcycle to his personal use.
Making the disclosure on a local radio Tuesday, June 30, Mr. Kabia said the bike was among several motorbikes recently confiscated by the Ministry of Commerce local office in Nimba, he further alleged that the bike has since been sold by the commerce boss. Kabia says he is highly disappointed that Mr. Miamen has engulfed with several allegations at an early stage of his assignment in the County.
According to him, the commerce inspector was assigned in the county to enforce law and order, but not to enrich himself at the detriment of the common business people.
Recently the commerce local office in Nimba, through Mr Miamen informed the people of the county about its confiscation of five new brand TVS motorbikes that were smuggled to the county, claiming he did not from where those bikes came.
According to him, four of the bikes were turned over to their head office in Monrovia on the instruction of his bosses for onward submission to LRA for proper taxation.
In an interview with Journalists, Mr. Kabia expressed frustration in the commerce head of the county for making such statement about people’s bikes he unlawfully arrested. He said Mr Miamen did not get a search warrant from any court to back his actions.
Miamen’s action was only intended to intimidate business people in the county, according to Kabia.
He has meanwhile given the commerce inspector a 48- hour ultimatum to give proper account of the bike in question or risk dismissal from his position.
Reacted to the allegation leveled against him, the Nimba County Commerce Inspector denied the allegation, and clarified that the bike in question was legally purchased by an individual whose name he could not mention.
He claimed that it was out of mistake that he confiscated the bike in question along with four others.
Meanwhile, Mr Miamen says his office has arrested 21 containers of gasoline in transit from Ganta to Guinea using an illegal border entry around the Child Friendly School in Ganta.
Though the office is in possession of the gasoline awaiting words from the head office, Miamen noted that the proprietor of God’s Willing Filling Station has been fined LRD $30,000 for the act.
