Two murder convicts, Exodus Wamah and Justice Dolo, were sentenced to 75 and five years respectively by the 7th Judicial Circuit Court in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County for murder.
Both men were charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, criminal facilitation, and tempering with physical evidence by the Liberia National Police in Ganta, Nimba County.
According to the indictment, in March 2017, victims Viola Richmond Thompson and her 13 year-old ward, Annie Johnson Moore, were found dead in their apartment in Ganta, Nimba County.
On March 14, 2017, the police in Ganta received information from the Regional Director of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCOR), that victim Viola Richmond Thompson had not reported to work for some time.
The police launched a search and discovered her house was locked and bad odour was coming out of it.
The police invited a nearby welder who forced the iron door open, and met victim Thompson in a pool of blood dead and her 13-year-old ward Anne hand tied at her back and turned upside down dead in a barrel.
Defendants Wamah and Dolo were later arrested, charged and transferred to Zwedru with their case file.
At the call of the case for hearing, the defendants pleaded “not guilty,” putting the onus on the state to prove its case.
The state provided five regular witnesses whose testimonies corroborated to link the defendants to the commission of the crime.
The Liberia National Police in Ganta, Nimba County also provided a Lone Star Cell MTN call list produced by the GSM Company, which revealed that defendant Wamah had called victim Thompson five times prior to her death the same day.
The trial jury brought down a unanimous guilty verdict in consonance with the facts, circumstances and laws controlling, which was upheld by the court.
Judge George Wiles announced the sentences of 75 years for Wannah and five years for Dolo beginning December 21, 2018.
Judge Wiles ordered the two men sent to the National Palace of Corrections in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County to serve their sentences.
The state was represented by Atty. Isaac B. Williams and Atty. Joseph G. Suah, while defence counsels were Atty. J. Mack Kangar and Cllr. James C.R. Flomo.
