Monrovia Branch Chaptered As New Member Of NAUW

The Monrovia Branch of the National Association of University Women (NAUW) has officially been chaptered, thus become a full-fledge member of NAUW.

The Monrovia Branch of NAUW was chaptered recently following the visitation of the President of the United States Branch of the organization, Madam Evelyn L. Wright to Liberia.

According to a NAUW release, the Monrovia Branch of NAUW was chaptered on Friday, July 13, 2018 at the University of Liberia (UL) Fendall Administrative Building Reception Hall, Louisiana, Montserrado County, with Madam Marthaline Wilson Williams inducted as the Branch’s President.

The chaptering of the Monrovia Branch of NAUW now makes it the second international arm of the organization.

Following the private ceremony performed by National President Wright and First Vice President Christiana Worthams, the ladies mingled with other NAUW members of the delegation and invited guests.

The group included Madam Linda Jones, National/International Chairperson, Dr. Essie French-Preston, Southwest Sectional Director and Fannie Love, South Bay Branch President and Williette Freeman, organizer, team liaison, and Chairperson of National and International Affairs, North Jersey Branch.

Invitations to the reception were extended to former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, Mrs. Clar Marie Weah, First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Madam Pam Belcher-Taylor, Mayor of the City of Paynesville, Dr. Ophelia Inez Weeks, President of the University of Liberia, and Mrs. Weade Kobbah Boley, Vice President for Administration, University of Liberia.

Speaking at the occasion, Madam Christiana Worthams, NAUW National First Vice President, recalled how excited she was while chartering the Harper Branch of the organization.

“This was our first international branch in Harper, Liberia, under the leadership of past National President Dolores Y. Owens,” said VP Worthams.

For her part, President Evelyn Wright in brief remarks stated: “This is indeed an historic occasion. I can truly say welcome Monrovia Branch; you are among the many ‘Progressive Women Remaining Relevant in a Global Society’.”
