The Ministry of Education, Liberia has received 13.5 acres of land to construct a modern state-of-the-art secondary school. The project is supported by the World Bank while the International Consolidated Contractors are handling it.
Lawrence S. Taylor, IRISE project control specialist at the Ministry of Education stated that the project’s goals are to increase learning quality and ensure fair access in all secondary schools in Liberia.
He identified the four main elements of the IRISE project as improving access at senior secondary schools in Liberia, supporting the expansion, and rehabilitation of 156 schools nationwide. As well as providing opportunities for girls to transition into secondary school, and enhancing the quality of secondary schools nationwide.
According to Taylor, the project’s first element aims to build three new secondary schools in Nimba, Bong, and Margibi.
Dominic Kwame, Assistant Minister for Planning at the Ministry of Education, said during the ceremonial handing over of the construction site that the building of the schools in the three chosen counties fitted President George M. Weah’s pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development.
The three projects will be finished in each of the three counties in fourteen months, according to Minister Kwame. With the goal being to dedicate them all during President Weah’s first term in office. Mr. Kwame then urged Bong County officials and residents to work with the contractors to speed up the construction process.
Lawmaker Cole then issues a warning to the building company in charge of the modern state-of-the-art secondary school project. Advising them not to take too many recommendations from political figures who might want to recommend a certain individual to work with the principal contractors.
Daniel Manah, a representative of International consolidated contractors” (I.C.C.), claims that his company has completed over 25 projects in Africa.
