The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in the state of Texas, said Saturday that Joseph William Woolard, 35, is the man who was shot by a deputy Friday evening after they say Woolard fired a shotgun at the deputy.
Woolard, who was later hospitalized in critical condition, has now been charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors in connection to the incident, according to court records.
In addition to evading arrest with a vehicle, Woolard was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, records show.
Woolard was pulled over about 3:45 p.m. at Military Drive and Loop 1604 when he fled on foot leading the deputy into the nearby Blazing Star RV Resort, according to BCSO.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said Woolard was shot by the unidentified deputy after Woolard fired several “slug” rounds from a shotgun at the deputy.
The deputy, a 7-year BCSO veteran, was uninjured.
Salazar said the suspect has a lengthy criminal history, and that he was out on bond when the incident occurred.
As of 2 p.m. Saturday, Woolard remained in critical condition at the hospital, according to a BCSO spokesman.
