In buttressing the celebration of this year’s ‘Abraham Day or Eid al-Adha’, the Liberian Mandingo Association of New York, the United States has donated several bags of rice to the Islamic community of Ganta, Nimba County.
The organization under the leadership of its President, Mr. Abraham Turay made the donation through Mr. Abraham Jabateh who is also an executive of the organization who during the regular prayer service made the twenty bags of rice presentation to the community. The twenty bags of rice were received by be presented to the Community Muslims In Nimba County
Thousands of Muslims across Liberia each year join their fellow Muslims globally in observing ‘Abraham Day’ (Eid al-Adha), a day celebrated to mark the bravery of the prophet Abraham, and Muslims perform the pilgrimage to pay homage at the Kaaba which Abraham had set up and reformed.
Eid al Adha, also called the festival of sacrifice, is the biggest religious festival of the Muslim community. In the history of this day, Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) went to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismael (Ismail) in order to keep his word to Allah (God). Since that time, Muslims celebrate this day as both a tradition and a duty to Allah.
The festival lasts four or more days, depending on the country in which it is celebrated. The day marks the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. In Islam, it is considered one of the main duties for those who have the physical and financial ability.
Eid prayer often holds on a large open area or in a big mosque. Many Muslims pray in large congregation, a gathering which is commonly referred to in the Muslim world as Jamaya.
For his part, the President of LIMANY, Mr. Abraham Turay urged his fellow Muslims to always preach the messages of peace for the growth and rapid development of Liberia.
