The Risk Communication Community Engagement (RCCE) In Maryland County has colorfully ended a successful two days Training Workshop in Harper City, Maryland County, southeastern Liberia with Stakeholders from the four districts of the County.
The workshop which ran from February 18 to the 19th 2022, was held at the conference hall of Caritas Cape Plamas in the County, the workshop, according to our correspondent in the county brought together dozens of participants from several local institutions including the Ministries on Internal Affairs Ministry, Agriculture Ministry,Health Ministry, Education Ministry, Land and Mines, Justice, Commerce and Industry, and the Ministry of Information Ministry among others.
Breakthrough ACTION program which aimed are delivering effective quality social and behavior change (SBC) activities in Liberia that will result in improved demand and use of health services for malaria, maternal, neonatal, and child health and nutrition (MNCH+N); family planning/reproductive health (FP/RH); adolescent health; and water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH); and to help communities engage in behaviors that help prevent zoonotic and non-zoonotic infections in line with the Global Health Security Agenda.
Addressing Participants during the Training Workshop, Ms. Comfort Smith one of the lead facilitators who told the gathering that Risk Community depends on the Media Communication, Social Media, Mass awareness Campaigns, House to House Mobilization, Advocacy and Community engagement in order to improve the health activities in Maryland County, Liberia and Globally.
She’s further elaborated that the main focus of “ONE HEALTH” is to strengthen Collaborative relationships and Communication between human health, animal health, and environmental health partners, the coordination of disease Surveillance activities across the Country, including Social Behavior Change.
“It is my greatest happiness to be with you here as one of the facilitators, let me informed you today that Risk Communication Principles are Trust, Planning, Listening, Transparency , therefore, you are encourage to do your best in Maryland County to improve the health system.
Presenting to participants in the County Ms. Smith informed the local Stakeholders that Rumors are unverified information that spread rapidly through a group or population, she’s at the same time call on the participants to educate people about the negative effect of Rumors in the society, She named the types of Rumors as Misinformation, Disinformation, Reports of events and /risk behavior.
“Rumors have destructive Consequences that includes creation of conflict, Victimization, and decrease in productivity and morale. Ms: Smith explained.
Speaking on behalf of the participants was the district Superintendent of Pleebo Mr. Aloysius Williams who happily extended words of Congratulations to Breakthrough ACTION for the level of education provided to the local Stakeholders in Maryland County.
“It is my greatest happiness and honored for the positive education you have contributed to us on this unique training workshop, I can ensure you that we Marylanders will implement what we have learned positively,” Mr. Williams mentioned.
