Following weeks of scuffle between the Ministry of Information and Tourism (MICAT) and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) on the issuing of passes to journalists to cover the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, yesterday, May 11, 2020, the Senate Committee of Broadcasting invited the two institutions to find out what gave rise to the current ongoing scuffle between the two.
After a hour-long meeting with the Committee, Dr. Henrique Tokpa of Bong County said the results from the outcome their meeting will be put before the plenary of the Liberian Senate for final conclusion this week.
For their part, both the President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), Charles Coffey and the Deputy Minister of Information and Culture Affairs for Public Affairs expressed happiness for the intervention of the Liberian Senate and assured that any decision taken by the plenary will be accepted.
Over the past weeks the PUL has been rejecting to use passes issued by MICAT to cover the ongoing crisis of the COVID-19, calling on its members to use their press cards issued by the Union, this resulted to serious outburst between MICAT and PUL.
