LIBERIA: Police In Pleebo Charged, Sent To Court Man, 44, For Statutory Rape

In Maryland County Police in Pleebo have charged and sent to court a 44 year-old man for allegedly raping an 11 year-old girl.

The suspect is identified as Elliot Cooper was charged with Statutory rape and forwarded to the Pleebo City Magisterial court on Thursday recently in the County, 2021.

Speaking in an interview with the head of the Women and Children Protection Division of the Liberia National Police in Pleebo, D. Tarplah Karneh, narrated that the suspect Cooper’s charges are in compliance with section 14. 70 of the new penal code of Liberia.

“Rape is defined under our penal code 14.70 and it is a felony of first degree,” police charge sheet indicates.

The incident occurred according to reports,  in a local village in Gbolobo, Pleebo Sodoken District, Maryland County.

The parents of the victim as  saying, “suspect Cooper had gone to spend a night with the family of the minor, while everyone was asleep, he managed to get to the victim’s bed and abused her sexually, meanwhile, because of the  long distance and deplorable roads, family sources said they were unable to rush the victim to the health center for immediate medical treatment, neither to the police station for investigation.

However medical report confirmed that the minor was tempered with, and sustain injury in her private part.

While the suspect is serving his days of pretrial detention, investigation continues.

It can be recorded in Maryland County recently next month a Boy, 12, was allegedly Sodomized in  Harper  Maryland County by a business  man believe in his late 30.

Many residents and citizens of Maryland County are actually calling on the Ministry of Gender and children protection, human rights organizations for their intervention and massive awareness in the County.
