LIBERIA: Police in Bomi Nab Clergyman, 55, For “Raping” Girl, 13

Flash Back: Man Handcuffed

A fifty-five year-old clergyman identified as William Mbayoh has been charged with multiple crimes, including rape and tampering with evidence, and is undergoing criminal investigation in Tubmanburg, Bomi County.

According to police report, on February 26, Mr. Mbayoh allegedly raped the thirteen year-old victim who has been living with him for a long time.

The report disclosed that Mr. Mbayoh was also accused of tampering with justice because he carried on his own examination of the victim at his home on grounds that he is a practical nurse.

The report explained that Mr. Mbayoh had no right to treat the 13 year-old victim at his home, but instead should have taken her to a well-recognized government referral hospital for treatment, where a trained Sexual and Gender Based Violence Focal Person is assigned to carry on rape examination.

The Police report also shows that Mbayoh was accused of tampering with criminal investigation because of his failure to report to the Liberia National Police, and instead took the child to a private clinic  owned by him and is not recognized by government to carry on SGBV examination of rape cases.

Clergyman Mbayoh is founder of the Renewed Christian Apostolic Church of Liberia; head of the Liberia Business Association in Bomi County and a famous host of a gospel talk show called Sunday School By Radio on Edwin Snowe’s radio station, Pumah 106.3 FM.
