LIBERIA: Police Forwards Man, 33, To Court For Alleged Rape  

The Women and Children Protection Section of the Liberia National Police has arrested, investigated, charged and forwarded to Court a 33 year old man identified as Prince Massaquoi, a resident of Camp Johnson Road for alleged STATUTORY Rape.

He was arrested on January 20, 2022 based on a complaint filed by  th3 guardian of the victim, Amos Y. Hare.

During police preliminary investigation, the following were established:

  1. That the victim’s registration form for academic 2020/2021 school year from the Charles D. B . King Elementary school confirmed that the victim was born January 2, 2009.
  2. That the victim’s physical appearance showed that she was severely sick at the time the complaint was brought at the Women and Children Protection Section on January 20, 2022.
  3. That the victim and suspect, Prince Massaquoi were living in the same place on the Camp Johnson Road.
  4. It was also established that suspect Prince Massaquoi is 33 years old.
  5. That medical report from Hope For Women Sexual Gender- based Violence ONE STOP CENTER revealed old healed lacerations (tears) at 12, 1, 5, 6, 11 and redness at 3 & 9 O’clock position in her vagina and evidence of penetration due to a blunt object.
  6. It was established that victim was sexually abused by Prince Massaquoi but the victim was unable to narrate her ordeal due to her medical condition.
  7. That the victim was admitted at the J.F.K. Medical Hospital on January 21, 2022 and died on January 24, 2022.

Police preliminary investigation also revealed that the victim  was presented with 10 days history of abdominal pain that was associated with anorexia, nausea, post prandial bilious vomiting, fever, progressive abdominal distention with worsening generalized abdominal pain and difficulty breathing.

It was  further  established through medical report that she had two (2) liters of pus in the abdominal cavity,  raptured apex with inflamed base of appendix and fibrinous exudate.

The report further stated that victim death was caused by OVERWHELMING SEPSIS 2 DEGREE due to or as a consequence of RUPTURED APPENDIX.

The analysis from victim  medical report and death certificate showed that her death was not related to the sexual abuse perpetrated against her or as a result of RAPE.

In view of the foregoing facts and circumstances,  coupled with evidence gathered,  the investigation resolved to charge defendant Prince Massaquoi “alias ” “Dorbor”  with the commission of the crime STATUTORY RAPE, which is in violation of section 14.70 of the New Rape Law of Liberia and forwarded to court for prosecution.

A press statement posted on the social media and signed by H. Moses Carter, Sr., head of the Press and Public Affairs, the Liberia National Police said.
