Liberia National Police Inspector General Col. Patrick Sudue has assured that the police under the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) government is people- centered, being non-violent in its interaction with civilians.
“We have not come to public service to create a brutal environment for our people; their safety matters most,” the Police Inspector General asserted.
He made specific reference to the civil role played by the police in handling the different protest actions embarked upon by some citizens and political institutions in Monrovia over the alleged “missing billions” and electoral dissatisfaction during the 2018 by-elections in Montserrado and Sinoe counties.
Col. Sudue gave the assurance at the start of a three-day tour of Grand Bassa County that kicked off on Thursday, January 31.
The Police Chief vowed to improve the operations of the force under his administration, citing the provision of logistics, promotions and benefits for long-serving officers and periodic refresher training and other plans.
According to Col. Sudue, such approach will assist the security in discharging its duty in accordance with the laws of the State and trashing away the perception that the Police are a medium of violence.
He applauded the Grand Bassa County Police Commander Sackor Freeman and the Joint Security for being proactive and vigilant in ensuring stability across Grand Bassa County.
During an interaction at the Bassa Governor’s Court with Col. Sudue, police officers identified mobility as key to the full achievement of the security goals in the county, a concern the Police Inspector General took seriously in his response.
The tour of the Police Chief took him to the LNP Fairgrounds headquarters, offices of Superintendent Janajay Baikpeh and the County Attorney, and the Government Referral Hospital on Kilby Street.
Meanwhile, Colonel Sudue has urged officers of the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Fire Service and the Coast Guard to collaborate in the operations of the security sector so as to bring to reality the commitment of the Weah government to lead a stabilized nation.
Col. Sudue’s tour will end on Saturday, February 2, with an engagement with citizens in Buchanan and the Liberia Agriculture Company in Electoral District #4.
