Liberia Medical Mission Donates US$3M Worth Of Drugs To Health Institutions

Several health institutions in the country were opportune to have been provided with over Three Million United States Dollars’ worth of drugs and medical supplies by the Liberia Medical Mission (LMM), a US based Liberian NGO helping to bringing relief to Liberia’s health sectors.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday, March 4, 2020, the Mental Health Team leader, Dr. Williametta Simmons-Sonpon said the purpose of the donation is to assist the country’s health sector, she further stated that the Team seeks to deal with health conditions, including physical and mental health, among others.

According to her, despite the numeral training provided to healthcare workers over the years, it was important to ensure that these healthcare workers equally trained with mental health condition and disadvantaged youth in the country.

She further disclosed social workers, nurses psycho-social workers and others across Liberia have already been trained by the group to improve and prioritize healthcare in the country, including mental health.

The Mental Health Specialist added that the entire training exercise was carried out be the Liberian Government through the Ministry of Health and other partners, stressing, “We did this in communication with the Government of Liberia and other partners; it was well set up and established in terms of how we got from the United States just to provide these services to our people,” Dr. Sonpon added.

Receiving the donation, the administration of the Agape Health Clinic in the Duport Road Community area thanked the Liberia Medical Mission for their gesture in the midst of the numeral challenges facing the clinic. “This facility has been given the opportunity to be used to bringing smiles of our faces,” Grace K. Smith told the Mission. For his part, James Brooks, an administrator of the Clinic also stated that the drugs will be used for its intended purpose.

On the other hand, Dr. Phanta Soko Sackor, Liberia Health Solution Chief Executive Officer said it was an opportunity for her to collaborate with the team to help the country’s health sector. She indicated that their goal is to improve the well-being of the Liberian people.

Health facilities that benefited from the donation include the John F. Kennedy Medical Hospital, while other health institutions are also expected to benefit from the kind gesture of the LMM.
