LIBERIA: LIMANY Applauds Secondary Math Teachers
The Liberian Mandingo Association of New York (LIMANY) applauds and congratulates 19 Liberian Secondary Mathematics teachers who successfully completed a full academic year of the I-HELP Liberia Project Math training program taught live online by Dr. Andrew Obus, Associate Professor, Department of Mathematics at Baruch College of the City University of New York (CUNY), USA. 26 teachers registered for the program but only 19 teachers successfully completed.
Even though he was not at the certificating event, LIMANY President Solomane K. Sirleaf pledged $500USD to the I-HELP Liberia Project in support of improving mathematics education in Liberia and he gave $300USD divided among the graduates. Mr. Sirleaf said, “Liberian teachers should continue to take advantage of such opportunities as provided by Dr. Obus and the I-HELP Liberia Project.”
The brief ceremony with the presentation of certificates to the successful Math teachers was held on Monday, July 4th in Monrovia, graced by the Deputy Minister for Instruction, Hon. Alexander Duopu along with Assistant Minister for Science Technology, Vocational and Inclusive Education, Hon. Saku Dukuly and Assistant Minister for Teachers Education, Hon. Mawolo. The Ministers commended the I HELP LIBERIA Project for its critical role in training our STEM teachers since 2010. Their collaboration has been invaluable and beneficial to our secondary education STEM programs. Minister Duopu presented the certificates to the teachers.
The I-HELP LIBERIA Project and MOE officials also had a short ceremony on the next day in Ganta and presented the certificates of completion and participation to deserving teachers. The I-Help Liberia was represented at both ceremonies by its Liberia Director, Mr. Abraham Jabateh.
The program provides the necessary in-service training that the teachers need to sharpen their skills and build their capacity for effective teaching. The Ministry acknowledges the immense assistance and collaboration and are profoundly grateful to I HELP LIBERIA. “Our special thanks go to Dr. Andrew Obus for this much-needed assistance. Admittedly, I HELP LIBERIA has also conducted other trainings for our STEM teachers.
“The I-HELP LIBERIA Project is pleased to work with the Ministry of Education. We also want to acknowledge the kind assistance of our partners and students from Hunter College High School in New York City, who have assisted us in our endeavors in Liberia”, said Dr. Obus.
