Liberia: Jury Finds Sierra Leonean Guilty Of Murder

Trial jurors of Criminal Court ‘B’ have found a Sierra Leonean national, Osman Kamara, guilty of raping and killing a 13 year-old girl in the Monrovia suburb of Duala in 2016.

Following legal arguments between prosecution and defense lawyers, the jurors who are considered judges of the facts, unanimously agreed that defendant Kamara was guilty based upon all the evidence adduced during the trial.

According to Criminal Court ‘B’ Judge Boima Kontoe, the trial jurors’ verdict clearly shows that government lawyers’ pieces of evidence adduced in court were convincing for defendant Kamara’s conviction.

But the lawyer representing the defendant, Attorney Sennay Carlor, took exception to the verdict, saying he will file a Motion for New Trial consistent with Chapter 22, Section 22.1 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

Kamara was indicted by the Government of Liberia for raping and killing the teenage girl in the commercial district of Duala in 2016.

Judge Kontoe is expected to render final judgment in the case next week.
