A National Regional Consultation for County Superintendents, District Commissioners, Tripartite Partners, Labour Congress, the Liberia Chambers of Commerce and key relevant sections of the Ministry of Labour, aimed at building awareness for the ratification of ILO Conventions has commenced in the country.
The Consultation which is being held under the theme: “Strengthening Institutional Capacities in Liberia for Ratification, Domestication and Reporting on International Labour Standards”, is implemented under the RBSA Project.
The event opened in Ganta City, Nimba County on July 12, 2021 and is expected to be hosted in four cities – Ganta, Gbarnga, Buchannan and Tubmanburg – over a period of ten days.
Speaking during the opening of the Consultation in Ganta City, Mr. Salif Massalay, the ILO-Liberia Project Coordinator explained that the National Regional Consultation is being held to engage local government officials, ILO tripartite partners and other stakeholders on the various ILO Conventions under the implementations of the RBSA Project. He emphasized that the National Regional Consultation dialogue is to increased knowledge of local leaders and key stakeholders on the importance of the ratification, domestication and application of International Labour Standards (ILS). Mr. Massalay further indicated that the Consultation targets thirty-eight (38) tripartite members and other key stakeholders including the Superintendents of the 14 regional counties and Labour Commissioners of the fourteen (14) counties.
The methodology for holding the Consultations, Mr. Massalay said, will feature a small group face-to-face dialogues and presentations, placing emphasis on the importance of the Rectification and Domestication of the ILO Conventions 100 and 138. The outcomes of the consultations, accordingly, will feed into the development of a policy paper that will be validated by relevant key stakeholders.
Importantly, all COVID-19 restrictions of social distancing and other protocols will be adhered to during the consultations.
