GNN Wishes All Journalists Around the Globe A Happy World Press Freedom Day
The management of Global News Network Incorporated, publisher of GNN-Liberia online and hardcopy wishes all journalists around the globe World Press Freedom Day observe this momentous day today, May 3, 2021.
The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day, and is yearly observed to raise awareness of the importance of freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty to respect and uphold the right to freedom of expression enshrined under Article 19 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and marking the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration, a statement of free press principles put together by African newspaper journalists in Windhoek in 1991.
UNESCO also marks World Press Freedom Day each year by bringing together media professionals, press freedom organisations and UN agencies to assess the state of press freedom worldwide and discuss solutions for addressing challenges. Each conference is centred on a theme related to press freedom, including good governance, media coverage of terrorism, impunity and the role of media in post-conflict countries.
Here in Liberia hundreds of Liberian journalists today have converged on the beautifully well layout city of Barclayville City of Grand Kru County where the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives , Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa will today address the Liberian media after a colorful march throughout the principle streets of the city of Barclayville.
At the end of the a soccer match will take place between the County Health Team and members of the Liberian media community, the Press Union of Liberia.
