(LINA) – Former Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai has stressed the need for every Liberian to contribute towards rebuilding the education sector because “education is the only hope for the youths” of the country.
“Education adds value to the lives of the young people in society. Though it is not easy to achieve, with motivation and the requisite support, the young people can achieve their educational goals,” Boakai said.
Making remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the 5th President of the United Methodist University Thursday, the former VP indicated that many Liberians have contributed to other countries and, as such, it is now time for them to do more for their country’s education system.
“We have contributed to many countries around the world, it is time that we all contribute to the education system of our own country. If we believe in education, we need to support the sector,” Boakai stated.
According to him, the purpose of acquiring education is to achieve transformation to one’s family and society at large.
For his part, the standard bearer of the All Liberian Party, Benoni Urey, said though the education sector is facing challenges, with the collective effort of Liberians these challenges in the sector can be overcome.
“We all want to make our private and public universities the best but our overall goal should be putting Liberia first and addressing the challenges in the education sector as a whole,” Urey said.
