Gbarpolu County Civil Society Organization (CSO) Chairman, Mr. Lincoln Johnson, has welcomed the Malaysian multi-million dollar oil palm company’s investment plans for Gbarpolu County.
Speaking Tuesday on a local radio in Tubmanburg, Bomi County, Johnson said Gbarpolu County has large hectares of land owned by citizens who have failed to develop them, and Sime Darby is in need of land to extend its investment to other parts of Liberia.
Johnson urged Gbarpolu citizens to accept the company’s investment to create job opportunities for citizens of the county and bring development to the area.
He made specific reference to Bomi and Grand Cape Mount counties as areas that are benefiting economically through Sime Darby’s investment.
The Gbarpolu County CSO chairman added that Gbarpolu has 159,000 hectares of land that Sime Darby is currently in need of to operate in that part of the country.
Johnson is urging citizens of Gbarpolu County who have lands to give them to the company to operate for the benefit of the county.
He frowned on citizens who are selling their lands to lawmakers in the county, noting that this is not benefiting the citizens when it comes to job opportunities.
“Let’s stop selling lands to lawmakers and allow Sime Darby to take our lands to create jobs for our people,” Johnson stressed.
Chairman Johnson believes that Sime Darby going to Gbarpolu County will result to the reconditioning of roads and upgrading of the health and education sectors of the county.
