LIBERIA: Court Detains Man, 23, For ‘Raping’ Woman, 73, In Buzzy Quarter

The Monrovia City Court at the Temple of Justice has detained a 23 year-old man identified as Aaron Cooper at the Monrovia Central Prison for allegedly raping a 73 year-old woman in the Buzzy Quarter Community.

Defendant Cooper was arrested by the Liberia National Police for the alleged sexual abuse of the old woman on July 28.

Police report indicated that the 73 year-old woman informed investigators that defendant Cooper beat her, forcibly abused her and later stole her money.

According to the police report, the victim’s testimony was backed by several pieces of evidence, including witness accounts as well as defendant Cooper’s own open confession during police investigation.

The defendant, however, admitted to stealing from the victim during police probe, but denied abusing her when quizzed by journalists outside of the court.

Cooper is currently detained at the Monrovia Central Prison pending court trial.
