As LACC Employees Crying Foul For ‘Misused Of Their Salaries’, GAC to Conduct Investigative Audit

Cllr. James N. Verdier, Jr.

Following a communication dated on December 28, 2017 from a member of the Liberian Senate, Grand Bassa County Senator, Jonathan L. Kaipay requesting the Chairman of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. James N. Verdier, Jr. after a complaint was filed against the entity by the former Executive Director, Daniel B. Tipayson that it has allegedly refused to settle over US$20,000.00 owned him, the General Auditing Commission (GAC) is to shortly audit the LACC to determine what went wrong.

According to the complainant, a letter dated December 12, 2017 and addressed to the Senate Committee on Autonomous Commissions and Agencies Chairman, said in 2013 employees of the LACC noticed that taxes (10% as income tax) deducted from their salaries by the LACC were effected progressively, and further alleged that with the consent of the effected employees US$30,000.00 was deducted unilaterally by the head of the Commission.

As result of all of these alleged allegations leveled against the LACC management, the General Auditing Commission has resolved to carry out what is considered as a thorough probe into the alleged allegation of the misused of former employees of the entity remittances of over sixty former employees of the entity.

However, the Board of Commissioners of the LACC has welcomed the decision of the GAC to conduct an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of former employees’ excess taxes deducted from their salaries.
