Jailed man charged with witness tampering in murder case

JERSEY CITY — A Jersey City man has been charged with witness tampering in a murder case for allegedly calling a woman from the Hudson County jail and asking her to get a witness to change or withdraw the statement he made to detectives.

Investigators say William Conyers, of Claremont Avenue, made the call on Jan. 31 using the jail personal identification number of a man currently being detained on charges he left the scene of a crash that claimed the lives of two teens on Jersey City’s Western Slope on Oct. 18, the criminal complaint says.
