India High Court Orders Crude Oil Tanker Flying Liberian Flag To Pay $11.8M Or Face Arrest
The Calcutta High Court has ordered a crude-oil tanker, flying the Liberian flag, to pay approximately Rs 88 crore ($11.8 million) or face arrest.
This comes after a crane on the tanker damaged the arms of the Haldia oil jetty. The court was informed that the tanker was attempting to leave the dock to avoid legal liabilities.
The tanker authorities can avoid arrest if they pay the cost of importing new jetty arms and the annual revenue loss caused by the damage. The court will revisit the case on September 26th.
