The Monrovia City Court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) Liberia former managing director Ayodeji Bejide, a Nigerian national, who left the country to seek medical help in Nigeria.
Bejide is wanted by the court in connection with his refusal to return to the country, after Magistrate Kennedy Peabody granted a medical leave to him to go to his native land, a decision prosecutors claimed was without their knowledge.
Bejide was granted the medical leave to enable him to seek medical attention and subsequently return to the country by October 22, which up to press time last night he has failed to do.
His charge of aggravated assault was necessitated when he was accused of throwing a calculator at the face of one of his staff members in a fit of rage following a meeting. The staff member, identified as Edward Freeman, sustained a serious injury on the lip.
The government then placed a travel ban on Bejide but, shortly afterward, Magistrate Peabody lifted the ban because Bejide was now under a US$50,000 bail posted by the Insurance Company of Africa, which guaranteed his trip to Nigeria.
